EGSnrc is a software toolkit to perform Monte Carlo simulation of ionizing radiation transport through matter. It models the propagation of photons, electrons and positrons with kinetic energies between 1 keV and 10 GeV, in homogeneous materials.

Can you manually convert the value of deposited energy to dose ?
Dose is defined as the energy deposited per unit mass, usually reported in Gray (J/kg).
The density of tantalum here is 16.654 g/cm3 , and the volume of the plate is 10 cm3 .
Therefore, the mass of the plate is 166.54 g, and the dose is:
D = 2.5506MeV/166.54g = 0.015315 MeV/g = 2.4538 × 1012 J/kg.

Microcalorimeters detect the temperature change of an absorber after an incoming particle has deposited its kinetic energy as heat. This operation principle provides considerable advantage over conventional detectors with respect to energy resolution, detection efficiency, energy threshold and radiation hardness. The detection of X-rays with microcalorimeters achieves a relative energy resolution of 13 ‰ in the energy regime of 1100 keV.
